Three Rivers Native

Three Rivers Native CohoThe Kellows have a farm on Three Rivers in Hebo, Oregon.  The property is about two miles above stream from the Cedar Creek Hatchery and holds native steelhead, Coho, and Rainbow trout.  I caught this Coho on a spoon I purchased at a gas station in Quilcene, Washington. He inhaled my spoon and being without a net, I tailed him on shore to get the hardware out of his throat. I then revived and he swam away under his power.

December’s Spoons

The spoons I'm packing tomorrow. I'm primarily a float fisherman but do enjoy tossing spoons on occasion. Never with any luck
The spoons I’m packing tomorrow.  Primarily a float fisherman but I do enjoy tossing spoons every so often.  I’ve never caught a salmon or steelhead on a spoon in freshwater, but I do try every time I’m on the water and the current isn’t agreeable with float fishing.

Inside Passage Boat Camping

Upper Yakima River

Photographs from two floats down the Yakima River in July of 2012 and 2013.  2012’s trip saw thunder and lightning in the mix while the most recent trip last weekend was perfect weather and great fishing.  I caught 6-7 Westslope Cutthroat trout on a red bladed Mepps spinner with a brass body and back.  I casted mainly from shore, although took to nearly free drifting the spinner behind me which also produced bites.  I lost the big fish of the day at the side of my kayak which was a nice Rainbow trout in the 20-22″ range. They were all great fighters and I managed to use the same rig all day without ever having  to tie a knot.
